Yogurt and Pirates

I've always LOVED green tea yogurt. I actually prefer it over the original tart flavor. I dont know why, but my taste buds seem to be more attracted to it. hahaha! One of the yogurt places I've tried that has the BEST tasting green tea yogurt for me is Red Mango. Yesterday, I had a trip to Red Mango at Trinoma to get my fix of green tea goodness.

Red Mango, Trinoma, 2nd floor

my favorite combination: Green tea yogurt+mangoes+Dezato mochi balls. YUM

The gang :) (Kattia, Alex, Jacko)

Jay and I. I was a hungry monster hahaha

After satisfying my craving, we headed over to the cinemas to get tickets to the last full show of the 4th Pirates of the Caribbean installment, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

The movie was great, except for some unnecessary cheesy parts. HAHA I also missed Orlando Bloom :( I thought this movie would be a little less entertaining without the 2 original characters played by Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightly, but Captain Jack Sparrow proved me so very wrong! Johnny Depp's character could have a movie all to his own, I tell ya :)) Always the witty and uncanny pirate that he is, Capt. Jack Sparrow is just as entertaining as he was in the first movie, probably even better. I also loved that they included mermaids in the movie! They were very magical but they also had a very dark part to them.
if you haven't seen this movie, GO OUT AND WATCH IT!! :)

So that's how I spent my saturday! how did you spend yours?:)

Thanks for dropping by! Have a good one :)

1930's makeup

I just wanted to share with you one of the makeup looks I learned from one of my classes at MDA. Like any subject, makeup also has its own history and I was very fascinated by what I learned. The Egyptians were probably the first pioneers of makeup. Waaaay back in 4,000 BC, the Egyptians used eye makeup to protect themselves from eye diseases and shield their eyes from the harsh sunlight. But the makeup they used did not come in the pretty packages they are packed in today. You will be shocked to find out some of the ingredients they used! some used boiled animal fats, some used ashes to exfoliate their faces (not human ashes, I suppose :| hahaha), and to soften the skin, Roman noble women slept with fresh meat on their faces. Perhaps Lady GaGa knew of this fresh meat thing :p

Fast-forward to the 1900's where makeup companies started to boom in the United States. Did you know that Maybelline has been around since 1915? A chemist named T.L Williams was the founder of Maybelline, which he named after his younger sister, Maybel. They were the first company to produce Cake Mascara. No wonder Maybelline has AMAZING mascara's. I absolutely LOVE their Volume Express: The Colossal  mascara. I recommend it to anyone out there looking for a great mascara :) I also recommend their Volume Express: The Falsies. I recently tried it when my mum bought it from the U.S and I've really liked it. :)

Anyway, back to the topic! hahaha So during the 1930's, WWII had a dramatic effect on womens role in society. Makeup was an instant morale booster for women and was used to defy the hardships they were going through at that time. Some icons from this decade were:

Jean Harlow (the original blonde bombshell)

Joan Crawford

and Bette Davis

As you can see from the pictures, they barely had any eyebrows. The trend was to pluck the eyebrows very thinly or to take them all out completely and draw in a new pair. Popular shades of eyeshadow that were used are green, bright violet, plum, and brown. Perfect ivory skin was preferred by the women. The foundation they used was ivory with a touch of pink, to give them that natural glow. The lips were accentuated with light rose, red, orange, and raspberry tones.

In class, we were taught how to conceal eyebrows since we cant just shave off our models eyebrows. haha! it was a very interesting process. Here are some photos of my work using my sister once again as my canvas :p

Here's a photo before the transformation :p

Tada! and here's the after shot. The look is a bit shocking, I must say :p

My work still needs a bit of perfecting though. I think I placed the pseudo eyebrows a little too high and the lips aren't perfectly lined. Oh well, practice makes perfect! This was my second time attempting this look and maybe it would be better the third time around :p any volunteers? :D HAHA

If you would like me to do a tutorial on this look, let me know! :)

Makeup Finals (MDA)

There are many things I am passionate about, and one of them would be MAKEUP!
I enrolled in a makeup course a bout a month ago at MDA, Makeup Design Academy, along Mother Ignacia street near ABS-CBN, Quezon City. I've learned so much through out the course and I'm really excited to learn more and explore the world of makeup artistry! :)

Today, we had our finals and it consisted of creating 3 looks: Bridal makeup, Smokey Eyes, and Pop-art makeup. My little sister helped me and gladly modeled for me today :D After each look, we had a mini photoshoot. I'll be posting the final photos when they are already availabe. For now, here are some shots I took from my camera. Enjoy! :)

FIRST LOOK: Bridal Makeup

I went for a romantic bridal look, mixing in some brown and plum colors.

Sir Glenn helped me with hair styling since I missed our class on hair 101 :(

What do you think? :)

my lovely model amidst my messy work station..hahaha!

SECOND LOOK: Smokey Eye/Glamour

LOVE this shot! hawt ;)

I wanted the hair to be in a high pony tale to better accentuate the strong makeup.

Yours Truly! :p

my sister and I love goofing off! Exhibit A. hahaha

Finished look. I decided to tone down the lips to a more nude-ish color so that the focus is on the eyes.

THIRD LOOK: Pop-art

Exhibit B. hahaha I LOVED THIS LOOK! so playful and full of color :)

Exhibit C hahahah

So those are the 3 looks that I created for our finals! I was really nervous the night before since I did not have time to practice these looks prior to the photo shoot finals, but I'm really glad all three looks turned out pretty decent :D

After almost 8 hours of working on these 3 looks, here you have a very tired but very satisfied artist! hahaha

If you would like me to do a tutorial on any of the these three looks, let me know! leave a comment of email me and i'll try my best to put it up asap :)
